Police from Ashton have arrested a man on the streets of Oldham suspected of stealing hundreds of pounds worth of chocolate bars and being armed with a knife.
Members of the Ashton Hurst force were on their way to the Annual Greater Manchester Police’s Community Christmas Dinner when they spotted the individual making off from a shop on Hollins Road in Oldham.
After a short foot chase they detained a man and found the collection of confectionary, a knife and also that he was wanted for failing to appear at court.
In all, the bag of Cadbury’s Twirls is thought to have been worth around £200.
A post on GMP’s Tameside North Facebook page read: “It would seem that the #AshtonHurst team will find trouble when not even in Tameside....
"Whilst on route to Force Headquarters with guests from the #AshtonHurst community who were attending the Annual GMP Community Christmas Dinner, they come across a male making off from a shop on Hollins Road, Oldham.”
