New Oldham Post Office will be relocated to Town Square shopping centre

Date published: 25 September 2019

The Oldham Post Office will be relocated into WHSmith at The Shopping Centre, Town Square, Oldham, depsite local opposition to the move.

The Post Office is currently located at 3-5 Lord Street in Oldham.

Steve Blampied, Head of Post Office’s Directly Managed Network, said that the change would help to ensure the branch is commercially viable into the future and therefore protect Post Office services on which customers in the area depend.

He said:“The Post Office is committed to keeping our services at the heart of communities which we know is hugely important to people.

"This change means we can continue to do that, into the future. We are making sure we take the right action to sustain services for years to come.”

The new branch at WHSmith with longer opening hours will open at 9am on Thursday 7 November and will see the Post Office incorporated alongside a retail offer of stationery, gifts and greetings cards.

The new branch will be operated by WHSmith Ltd, who have successfully operated Post Office branches for a number of years.

There will be seven serving positions and three self-service kiosks. Services will be available from 9am to 5:30pm Monday – Saturday and 10:30am to 2:30pm on Sunday.

The same, wide range of products and services will be available, with the exception of a cash machine, though all Post Offices branches also offer customers access to their usual high street bank account.

This means customers in Oldham will be able to deposit and withdraw cash, as well as check their balance, over the counter at the branch, during all the extended opening hours.

The current Oldham Post Office will close at 17.30 on Wednesday 6 November.
