The SPACE gears up for March grand launch event

Date published: 21 February 2020

Construction work on the brand new state-of-the-art extension to Mahdlo Youth Zone is nearly complete, with the venue set to open with a VIP launch event on Monday, March 16.

The new building, named the Stoller Performing Arts Centre of Excellence (SPACE), has been designed to accommodate the charity’s growing creative offer.

The SPACE will aim to reach more young people from the borough who have an interest in creative expression through arts, drama and music.

As part of the launch, Mahdlo is encouraging residents of Oldham to show the world how creative a town we are, and showcase their musical, artistic, and performing talents on social media using #BelieveinYourself.

Funded by The Stoller Charitable Trust, The SPACE will offer a host of events from open mic nights, theatre performances, dance sessions and gigs.

The SPACE aims to be Oldham’s creative powerhouse, allowing young people to express themselves and explore their talents and passions like never before.

Collaborating with some of the borough’s most artistic partners, the creative arts venue will be a unique safe space, bringing together young talent from across the Oldham area and beyond.

Sir Norman Stoller CBE KStJ DL, President of Mahdlo Youth Zone, said: “It is a privilege to play a part in the future young people are carving out for themselves at Mahdlo.

“With a vast array of amazing new talent, opportunities and experiences to offer, I for one cannot wait to see the emergence of the future stars that The SPACE @ Mahdlo has waiting in the wings.”

Mike Doran, CEO at Mahdlo Youth Zone, added: “Oldham’s young people have always had a fantastic reputation for their talent, and The SPACE will create even more opportunities for them to showcase what they can do.

“Our new venue will go beyond benefitting Mahdlo members.

"Any young person from our region who has a passion for the creative arts, will find a place for themselves at The SPACE.”
