Oldham getting £7.6m from the government to tackle Covid-19

Councils across Greater Manchester will be given £89m to help them deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes from a £1.6bn emergency pot set up by the UK government to help local authorities tackle the crisis.

Announcing the funding last month, Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick said: “The work of local authorities to deliver social care and other vital public services has never been more important than it is now – and will be – in the days and weeks ahead.

“That’s why we’re giving local councils £1.6 billion of additional funding to spend where it’s needed most, to ensure they can meet the cost of the increased demand for social care, and continue to protect the most vulnerable people in society.”

Town halls across Greater Manchester have been allocated some £89,791,659 to deal with the crisis, with Manchester council receiving the most – nearly £18.6m.

Manchester – £18,589,281

Oldham – £7,641,407

Wigan – £10,464,897

Bolton – £9,251,398

Salford – £8,910,681

Stockport – £8,275,834

Tameside – £7,675,303

Rochdale – £7,499,857

Trafford – £6,118,593

Bury – £5,364,298
