Police appeal after suspected murder

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and later detained under the Mental Health Act
A man has been arrested and detained under the Mental Health Act following the death of a woman at her home in Manchester.
At around 8:30pm on Thursday, May 7, 2020, police were called to reports of a concern for welfare at an address on Westminster Street, Manchester.
Emergency services attended and a 67-year old woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and later detained under the Mental Health Act.
Detective Inspector Benjamin Cottam, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of this woman who tragically lost her life and our specialist officers are continuing to support them at this distressing time.
“Although we have a man in custody, our investigation is very much ongoing, and I would like to stress that our detectives are continuing to work tirelessly to complete their enquiries.
“I would urge anyone with any information that could assist officers in their investigation to please get in touch as soon as possible.”
