Local MP to call for Covid Legacy Bill to put health and well-being at the heart of recovery

Oldham East and Saddleworth MP Debbie Abrahams
Oldham East and Saddleworth MP and co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group, Compassion in Politics, Debbie Abrahams, has written for The House magazine calling for a Covid Legacy Bill ahead of the Chancellor’s Economic Statement later today (Wednesday).
Mr Abrahams said: “The APPG has organised a number of virtual meetings to discuss what our recovery from Covid could and should look like.
"We believe that out of the horrors of this pandemic, there is an unique opportunity to put health and well-being at the heart of our recovery defined in a new Covid Legacy Bill.
“That means as a country, we have to tackle the structural inequalities that exist across society, including how the Government operates and the taxation and spending decisions that they make.
"Only 6% of the public want to return to how things were pre-Covid.
"Our Covid Legacy Bill provides an alternative, where we all benefit.
“The APPG will be lobbying the Prime Minister and Chancellor for this revolutionary approach in today’s Economic Statement.”
