Improvements made to Dovestone but extra step needed says Lib Dem councillor

Extensive yellow lines were implemented and enforcement action is still taking place.

The summery weather brings visitors out with BBQs which increases the risk of fires.

Following discussions with the marshals, Liberal Democrat Councillor Garth Harkness has another concern.

He said, "last year I called for irresponsible people lighting BBQs on our moorlands to be hit in the pocket to be fined £1000 since then we have had a Public Protection Order and whilst I think the fines are modest it is welcomed progress as are the extensive yellow lines and the collaborative work done at Dovestone to help address the safety concerns.

"There is also another problem which has emerged and that is motorists attempting a right turn when it is dangerous to do so”

Motorists travelling Greenfield bound down Holmfirth Road are not allowed to turn right but Councillor Garth Harkness has been told that a number of motorists have attempted this and it has caused a number of near misses and small bumps. Marshals are also said to have expressed concerns over these manoeuvres.

He said

“Signage is so small and the sign saying to turn at the roundabout comes afterwards and is obscured.

"This could easily be swapped with the large tourist attraction sign which is adequately positioned so that motorists have time to prepare. This hopefully, might improve safety further.”
