Freehold Metrolink station once again has a working lift following pressure applied by Oldham West and Royton MP, Jim McMahon.
After constituents raised the issue that the lift on the platfrom had been out of operation for a considerable amount of time, Mr McMahon wrote to TfGM and highlighted the importance of the lift, particularly for those facing barriers to travelling.
He said: “For many people using the steps to get on the platform here at the Metrolink station at Freehold just isn’t an option for a number of reasons, and so the lift is a real lifeline to make sure that people can use public transport in an accessible way.
"For so long the lift was plagued with problems, which means that often it didn’t work, but thankfully we made representations to Transport for Greater Manchester and we’re pleased now that the lift has been fixed.
“And that means that people can now get around Greater Manchester in the way that they should be able to do.”
