No deal agreed after Greater Manchester Tier 3 lockdown talks
Date published: 20 October 2020

Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham
Talks have been ongoing between local leaders in Greater Manchester and the Government about how and when Greater Manchester will enter the highest lockdown restrictions.
Mayor Andy Burnham has been calling on the government to increase their financial package to help support the lowest paid workers.
But Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick has tweeted:
"I’m disappointed that despite recognising the gravity of the situation, the Mayor of Greater Manchester has been unwilling to take the action that is required to get the spread of the virus under control in Greater Manchester and reach an agreement with the government.
"I have therefore advised the Prime Minister that these discussions have concluded without an agreement."
This therefore suggests we could be heading into Tier 3 without any extra financial support - reports suggest the extra sum is unlikely to be above £60 million.
The Prime Minister will hold a press conference at 5pm where we hope to find out more details.
