Collection record for Saddleworth Round Table

The human dynamoes behind Saddleworth Round Table are celebrating hitting a new collection record for Oldham Food Bank.
Despite horrendous weather, hundreds of kindhearted locals turned out in force on Saturday to give a wide range of goods at table’s rendezvous in Greenfield’s dog training centre car park.
In all, 1954.46kg of food was weighed in with a remarkable 5659 single items booked in.
Other headlines contributed by generous spirited to locals remarkable collection were: 627 tins of fish, 84 jars of jam 91 bags of sugar, 197 packets of tea, 868 packer of crisps and 135 jars of coffee.
A Food Bank spokesman praising round table said: “We were running very low on some of the items and the collection has ensured food parcels can continue to go out complete.
Very well done for organsing the initiative — it was very well worthwhile.”
Round table beat their two previous drop-offs held at The Kingfisher by gathering more than 5,000 in one day.
John Arthurs, Round Table Chairman, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who braved the weather to come and donate to Oldham Foodbank and we have been overwhelmed with the generosity shown from our community.
“In addition, we received £210 cash donations which was invested in the highest priority items.
“Special thanks to Tesco for donating the in store collection and to All Breeds dog training in Greenfield who provided the perfect place to hold a socially distanced drop off point.”
