Five year-old Freya McKechnie
Mighty atom Freya McKechnie really did go the extra mile for the love of a new baby...
The five year old had originally set herself a daunting task of pushing her scooter five miles raising funds for the dedicated medical teams who treated a new born baby.
But determined Freya actual trundled an extra mile and notched up a whopping £947.50p for Alder Hey Childrens Hospital in Liverpool.
The hospital team had treated baby Millie Burrows-Maynard whose parents Jenni and Alex are long time friends of Fraya’s mother, Jenny, who lives in Delph.
Millie suffered medical complications but after anxious weeks of treatment is now fully restored to good health.
Freya had bonded with the infant and she produced a carefully handwritten mini poster seeking support for her fundraising scooter ride.
Said her proud mother: “Freya did an excellent job, quick first mile with a pit stop at the park in Dobcross then onto Uppermill.
“We got on the canal bank to come back through Uppermill, she had a bit of a tumble and got very muddy- but got straight back up!
“Then there was a quick hot chocolate stop before heading back to Delph where we went through the village and up to the school where her friend Daisy was there to wave her on.
“Freya was exhausted at this point and hadn’t had a rest in ages so she was very grateful it was downhill towards home.
“Millie’s parents brought some lovely flowers to say thank you for her hard work. She slept like a log that night.”
