Planet Mercy volunteers continue to make their mark

Planet Mercy UK provided its largest food parcel distribution during the festive season since the pandemic started in March, 2020.

Two hundred and fifty food parcels, including emergency requests were packed at the hub in Oldham, before being distributed to struggling families or individuals in Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Middleton, Heywood and Manchester.

Around 60 volunteers from various parts of Greater Manchester helped with packing the parcels, which included fresh fruit and vegetables, cooked food, and gifts for families with children to make their Christmas a little more special.

Mohammed Moheeb, of Planet Mercy UK, said: “Our parcels reached more than 65 children of varying ages.

"Food parcels were delivered in time for Christmas and a second delivery was made a few days afterwards to ensure families did not go hungry during these testing times.

“A big thank you to our volunteers who ensure we can operate this support during this period.

"The volunteers were also on standby during the new year, ensuring help quickly reaches those who need it. 

“As ever, our hand on heart thanks go out to FareShare Greater Manchester who provide us a large portion of the food parcel contents ensuring our families get a high-quality meal each week. 

“We operate a 100% donation policy; all our volunteers donate their time and service, so we ensure that every penny donated is spent on the food parcels.”

Planet Mercy is a registered UK charity, under the umbrella organisation of Madina Institute UK.

The organisation began in 2009, working in the Oldham and Rochdale areas, and has provided thousands of warm meals across the country.
