Residents vote for new health centre to go on former Saddleworth School site

Local residents want to see a modern, fully-equipped health centre on the current Saddleworth School site in Uppermill when it becomes available after the school moves in February next year.
That's according to local Liberal-Democrat councillor Kevin Dawson.
Mr Dawson said: “Following our appeal to local residents last October for their views, it is clear that the top priority for this site, owned by Oldham Council, is for a new health centre for Saddleworth to replace the very cramped and limited facility on Smithy Lane.
"The site is much larger, and is very close to the bus terminus and the centre of Uppermill.
"It also has much more room for patients to park their cars.
"The public also want the all-weather pitch to be retained for community use, and for some affordable housing for younger people and local families.”
Councillor Dawson added: “It is time that Oldham Council revealed their plans for the old school site which they own.
"Liberal Democrat councillors identified funding for this new health centre project in their amendment to Oldham Council’s Budget.
"It is truly shocking to report that local Conservatives and Labour joined forces to vote it down.”
