Officers praised following 'great act of kindness'

Date published: 03 February 2021

Two Oldham police officers - and the Tesco Extra store on Huddersfield Road - have received numerous messages of praise after coming to the aid of a mother and her two children.

GMP officers were initially called to the mother's property after welfare concerns had been raised.

A post on the GMP Oldham Central Facebook page read: "PC 16269 Parker and PC 18606 Godding attended a concern for mother and two infant children at an address on Eldon Street.

"When attending the address one of the children was unfortunately suffering from kidney disease and they discovered there was an extremely short supply of food and provisions.

"Due to the time of night all foodbanks were closed.

"Officers contacted Tesco Extra on Huddersfield Road, who very kindly offered to provide essential food, provisions and even toys for the children.

"This made a huge difference to their wellbeing and was an extremely kind donation.

"Thank you to the staff at Tesco."

Reacting to the post since, Facebook followers have been fulsome in their praise.

"Well done GMP - a great act of kindness goes a long way," said one.

Another said: "It is a lovely store and I’m so glad that the police officers found help for this family."

"It's called good will, well done GMP for showing some initiative," read another reply.

"People should stop thinking the worst all the time and look outside the box for a change."

Another post said: "Great gesture GMP and Tesco. Not everybody will ask for help through their pride, but good to see people helped in such a difficult time."
