Council leader shows support for vaccination effort

More than 37,500 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine had been administered in Oldham by Thursday of this week, and Council Leader Sean Fielding was out on the frontline supporting the NHS.

The Failsworth vaccine clinic, operating from Failsworth Health Centre, was a hive of activity with a steady stream of elderly and clinically extremely vulnerable patients attending for their Oxford AstraZeneca jab.

On arrival patients were greeted and checked in by marshals, including Failsworth councillor Fielding, who welcomed patients, completed paperwork and checked on their welfare after they had had their vaccination.

He said: “Getting everybody vaccinated is a mammoth task and witnessing the operation first-hand was inspiring.

“Thank you to our incredible NHS Oldham for the work they are doing that will allow us to get back to some normality, Oldham Council for their role in supporting the organisation, and all of the volunteers involved for giving up their time.

"It was a privilege to work alongside them this week.”
