A compelling infographic showing the heroes of the hills preparing for a night time drama accompanies the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team's annual statistical summary.

In all last year, the team were involved in 43 incidents, involving 43 casualties, with the valiant volunteer force out in action for 2,643 hours.

These included two fatalities, nine helicopter links, two wild fires, six missing from home, 18 incidents in the Dovestone area and a dog trapped in a pot hole.

Said team leader Rob Tortoiseshell: “New ways of operating and training because the coronavirus, and new rules on PPE, disinfection and social distancing guidelines, was challenging at times.

“However, OMRT are a resilient bunch and we soon settled into the new normal, attending the inevitable callouts which came with the relaxation of the various lockdowns.

“The infograph is a small snapshot of the incidents we attended and, on top of this is our member’s commitment to training, fundraising, administration and equipment checking - much of which was done online in 2020.”

Rob added: “I would reinforce my message that people should be well prepared and have good footwear.”
