Inspirational Oldham kindness project secures £1,000 grant

Leading housebuilder Persimmon Homes has pledged a £1,000 donation towards the work of an Oldham woman who reaches out to people in difficulty through cards and gift packages.

Twenty-year-old Beth Graham set up her Kindness Cards Project in 2018 to help raise a smile and show care towards people throughout the UK who are struggling with disability, chronic illness, mental health issues and other conditions.

She said: “There are so many deserving people who need cheering up, for whatever reason, and I want to help put a smile back on their faces.

"As someone with autism, I struggle sometimes, so can relate to a lot of what people are going through.

“I’ve lost count of the cards and packages I have sent out, both locally and around the country, and I’ve personally delivered them to adult and children’s wards at my local hospital.

"I need to raise funds to keep the project going and that has been very tough over the last year, so this support really needed and much appreciated.”

Beth has won a number of awards for her good works, including the Vera Holden Memorial Award for inspirational young person of the year in 2019, and last yar she was shortlisted for Oldham Inspirational Young Person’s Award at the Oldham Youth Mayor’s Ball.

Persimmon Homes North West sales director Dave Hodgson said: “We were very struck by Beth’s amazing work with Kindness Cards, which gives great support and encouragement to those who are struggling with injury, disability or other issues, both here in the north west and throughout the UK.

“We are delighted to make a donation of £1,000 towards the project from our Community Champions programme, which enables us to select two good causes each month for financial backing.

"Beth is a most worthy recipient and we wish her every success in the future.”
