Oldham weather gives Ibiza a run for it's money

Date published: 30 March 2021

Temperatures in Oldham today are on par with those in the Mediterranean resort of Ibiza as the UK enjoys a short heatwave.

Long periods of sunshine are predicted for the rest of the day, with the highest temperatures expected to be around 21C.

Ibiza will manage only 20C, and it's expected to be cloudy this afternoon.

The mini-heatwave is being seen across the UK, with temperatures up to 24C in London and the South-East.

Steven Keates, a Met Office meteorologist, said: "If we do get above 24 it will be the highest UK March temperature in 53 years. It seems a reasonable chance that's going to happen."

"It's an exceptionally warm spell of weather with potential for some records to be challenged."

The sunshine is expected to be short-lived, however, as colder weather arrives on Thursday and it will remain chilly across the bank holiday weekend.
