Comedy is back - Saddleworth promoter Rob spills the beans on his May guests

Date published: 09 April 2021

As the entertainment industry cautiously continues its fightback from the coronavirus pandemic, Saddleworth comedy promoter Rob Riley will return next month with the first of his 'What If It Rains?' outdoor comedy evenings.

An al fresco gig is clearly one that Rob is particularly looking forward to.

He said: "Sunday, May 30 will now be our first 'What If It Rains? outdoor show, and it's the Bank Holiday Sunday too.

"Social distancing means we lose money of course, so we thought we'd give an outdoor show a go.

"The shows are titled accordingly so that no one is in any doubt as to what could happen.

"Obviously, it's England so wrap up well and if we get a bit of drizzle we shall soldier on in the best showbiz tradition, but if it does start to look biblical then the acts are already booked in reserve for the next night and we'll do it again then.

"Oldham's very own Mick Ferry will be introducing the excellent Leo Kearse on the night, and we'll have the long-awaited return of The One Show's Carl Hutchinson."

Before that May 30 date, however, the Off the Rails comedy night will see Gary Delaney (Mock The Week, Live At The Apollo etc, pictured above) popping in to perform two shows on Friday, May 21, at the regular Royal George venue in Greenfield.

Shappi Khorsandi (I'm A Celeb, Have I Got News For You, QI, etc) will feature at Off the Rails on Sunday, June 27, and not many tickets remain for that gig.

Off the Rails Comedy Club takes place in the upstairs function room at the Royal George (OL3 7HX).
