Emmaus Mossley gears up for second-hand superstore reopening

Date published: 11 April 2021

Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley is preparing to reopen its second-hand superstore after a 14-week closure due to the latest Covid-19 shutdown.

The large charity store, which sells second-hand furniture, upcycled items, household goods, bric-a-brac and clothing, will reopen on Tuesday (April 13) at 10am.

During the shutdown period, beneficiaries and staff at the charity have carried out extensive refurbishments in readiness for reopening.

Gary Barton, community member at Emmaus Mossley, said: “It will be great to welcome people back and see some friendly faces again.

"We hope that everyone has been keeping safe over the past few months and continue to be safe as restrictions ease.”

Emmaus Mossley provides a home, meaningful work, training and support to people who have experienced homelessness or social exclusion.

The majority of funds needed to support the charity’s work are generated through its social enterprises.

Hazel Hodkinson, Retail Manager at Emmaus Mossley, said: “We cannot wait to open our doors again and welcome back our loyal shoppers, donors and supporters.

"After all of the hard work over the past few months, we’re really looking forward to people seeing our newly refurbished superstore.

“In order to help keep everyone safe, we are continuing to limit the amount of people in store at any given time and ask that all visitors sanitise their hands on entry.

"We will be accepting donations again but please check our website in advance to find out what items we are able to accept.”

Shop donations can be dropped off at the charity’s Longlands Mill site during opening hours.

Emmaus Mossley is encouraging supporters to clean donations prior to packing in bags or boxes and labelling where possible.

Clear signage will be displayed advising where to drop off donations.

Collections of larger donations will resume from Tuesday.

The Emmaus Mossley second-hand superstore will be open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.

Lucie’s Café will also reopen for the first time in over a year.

The café will offer a take-away service serving drinks, cakes and light refreshments that can be consumed at outdoor tables or off premises.
