A man who stabbed two men in their own home during an attempted burglary has been jailed for nine years.

Steven David Timperley broke into a house on Park Road, Gatley, Stockport, on January 8, 2020 at 4.30am armed with a knife and demanded money from a woman watching television.

The woman called out to her husband, who was in bed, to come and help.

He suffered several stab wounds across his body and face as he tried to apprehend Timperley.

A second man was also stabbed and needed hospital treatment as the pair subdued Timperley while they waited for police to arrive.

One of the victims was in hospital for six days and needed emergency surgery to remove part of his colon.

Timperley (aged 49) of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and two section 18 assaults.

He was sentenced to nine years at Minshull Street Manchester Crown Court yesterday (Thursday).

Detective Constable Robert Shakespeare, of GMP's Stockport CID, said: "This was a horrific attack on the victims who were in their own home sleeping when Timperley broke in armed with a knife.

"After confronting a female occupant, her husband and his relative demonstrated extreme bravery in detaining the attacker despite being stabbed themselves until officers arrived shortly afterwards.

"Timperley was arrested and has now been convicted with a sentence behind bars which, after his acts that day, is where he deserves to be."
