Contractor starts work on next phase at Hollinwood Junction

Date published: 24 May 2021

Contractor Stainforth Construction has commenced work for developer Langtree on a drive-thru Costa Coffee unit as the £35m Hollinwood Junction project moves to its next phase.

Stainforth is programmed to complete the unit and handover to Costa Coffee for tenant fit-out in October, 2021.

Construction of the Costa Coffee unit has commenced in tandem with the £2m package of enabling works that were commissioned earlier in the year to unlock the site that was previously blighted by a large redundant gas holder.

I&H Brown, the contractor undertaking the enabling works, is scheduled to complete this phase of development in July of this year.

The development of Hollinwood Junction is a partnership between Langtree and Oldham Council, and John Downes, Langtree’s group chief executive, said: “Milestones such as this send a strong signal about our intent and our focus on delivering the Hollinwood Junction scheme, and I’m pleased to welcome Stainforth Construction to the team.”

Commenting on the news, Cllr Arooj Shah, leader of Oldham Council, said: “It’s great to see construction start on the next phase of this important regeneration project which will deliver more jobs for our communities when they are much-needed.

“We’ll continue to work with our partners to unlock investment in Oldham and deliver our Creating a Better Place regeneration strategy to maximise our borough’s potential and create opportunities for all.”

Susan Agnew from Costa Coffee said: “We are delighted to be working with Langtree and Oldham Council to deliver a Costa Coffee Drive Thru in this phased development.

"We have all been working very hard, throughout the pandemic, to ensure the delivery of this acquisition and it is part of Costa’s continued commitment to expand our DT operations throughout the country.”

Hollinwood Junction is expected to create 760 jobs and incorporate retail, leisure, employment and up to 150 family homes.

The site is adjacent to junction 22 of the M60, south west of Oldham town centre.
