Hero Frank is the pride of Manchester

Solo Atlantic rower Frank Rothwell has received a Pride of Manchester Award as Fundraiser of the Year.

Actor John Thomson, pictured, presented the award to Frank, who completed an amazing 3,000 mile row at the age of 70 to raise more than one million pounds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

The award means Frank automatically qualifies for the chance to be awarded a Pride of Britain Award later in the year.

Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: "We’re incredibly moved by Frank’s determination to raise over £1 million for dementia research and it’s fantastic to see him winning over the hearts of the nation on our TV screens.

"Not only has Frank raised an incredible amount, but he has continued to help spread awareness and inspire people of all ages to take on their own challenges.

"To bring about life-changing treatments for dementia, fundraising efforts from ordinary people like Frank and his supporters provides a crucial lifeline to the progression of our research.

"We are forever thankful to Frank for his magnificent efforts to help find a cure for dementia."

Frank, who lives in Saddleworth, is owner of Hollinwood-based Manchester Cabins.
