A tearful bride-to-be has slammed Oldham NHS ambulance procedures after her father made a transfer journey with another patient suffering from Covid-19, meaning he can't now attend her wedding ceremony this Saturday.
Kirsty Wilson's father Martin (55), from Royton, is suffering from a severe infection so a decision was made yesterday morning (Wednesday) to transfer him to North Manchester General in Crumpsall for specialist treatment.
However, it appears that Martin was transferred to Crumpsall with two other patients, one of whom has now been diagnosed with Covid-19.
Martin has now been told he must isolate for 10 days, meaning he will not now be able to attend daughter Kirsty's wedding ceremony to Richard in Lichfield, Staffordshire, this weekend.
A distraught Kirsty told the Chronicle: "It's ridiculous.
"I want to know why was my Dad was transferred in an ambulance alongside two other patients at a time like this.
"There was no social distancing going on, and the two ambulance staff weren't wearing masks.
"The patients were tested beforehand, but the results weren't revealed until they arrived at Crumpsall, and it now turns out that my Dad was in the ambulance with someone who has covid.
"That means he can't come to my wedding and give me away on Saturday.
"We're all heart-broken.
"My Dad has stuck to all the rules in this pandemic. He's not been out of the house hardly.
"My wedding was the first time he was due to be going out since before the pandemic began.
"It just feels so cruel.
"He is my only parent now, and we're both devastated that he can't give me away."
Martin is hoping to leave North Manchester General tomorrow (Friday) following treatment, and will then need to isolate at home.
Dr Jonathan Moise, Medical Director at Oldham Care Organisation, which runs The Royal Oldham Hospital, said: “I am very sorry that Mr Wilson will miss his daughter’s wedding.
"We always strive to provide our patients with the best possible care and we would be happy to speak with Mr Wilson if he would like to discuss his care with us further.”
