Nominate your health and care pandemic champions for Greater Manchester-wide awards

Members of the public are being invited to make their nominations for the Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards 2021. 

Entering their third year, after being put on hold due to Covid-19, the awards are a fantastic opportunity to say thank you to the unsung heroes who have really made a difference in our hospitals and in our communities during the pandemic.  

This year the awards are looking to recognise those people who have really stepped up – from health and care workers, both front line and those in support and administrative roles – to key workers and community champions.  

Award categories include key worker and community champions, those who have led innovative practice, volunteers, leaders at any level and those who have helped improve the wellbeing of those around them during such a challenging year.  

Nominations can be completed by colleagues or members of the public who wish to see an individual or team’s hard work recognised.  

Nominations can be completed online by visiting: www.gmhsc.org.uk/awards and must be returned by the deadline of August 6.  

The awards are organised by Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, the body that oversees the area’s £6bn devolved health and social care budget, with support from the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.

The winners will be announced at a sponsored virtual event in the autumn.  

Sarah Price, Chief Officer of Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “The last year has been the toughest yet for our health and care services.

"Teams in hospitals, care homes and out in primary care and the community have put their lives at risk to care for others and support our country’s pandemic response. 

“They could not have done their job without the dedication of community champions and key workers – that kept key services running and helped support some of the most vulnerable in our communities. 

“These awards offer an opportunity for the people of Greater Manchester to recognise that contribution and say thank you. 

“Whether you or a loved one recently experienced outstanding care in your local GP practice or hospital, or you know a care worker who has gone the extra mile, or a volunteer who has dedicated their spare time to helping others, why not take five minutes to complete a nomination today?” 

Mr Burnham said: “I am delighted to support these awards as they recognise the remarkable way so many individuals and teams have stepped up and got us through the most challenging year.  

“Thank you will never be enough for the dedication people have shown.

"However, I’m sure the people of Greater Manchester will embrace this opportunity to celebrate our health and care champions and share some of the inspirational stories that need to be heard.”
