Parents' reminder - it's your last chance to apply for September’s primary school places

Date published: 23 June 2021

Oldham Council is reminding parents that it is not too late to apply for primary school places for the new school term starting in September.

Based on projections, there appears to still be a small number of families who have not yet completed their primary school applications.

It is extremely important that parents and carers complete their applications as soon as possible to ensure their child has a school place in September.

Starting school is one of the key foundations for very young children in developing their educational and social skills to prepare for life, so it is vital that these applications are submitted.

Councillor Shaid Mushtaq, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “We are working hard to identify the parents and carers who have yet to apply for their child’s primary school place.

“It is so important that we receive these applications as starting school is a key milestone in every child’s life.

“It is also important that schools can plan accurately their budgetary requirements, which is based on school numbers.

“We know that the Coronavirus pandemic has played a big part in some people missing the original deadline in April.

"However, we want to reassure parents and carers that help and support is available so that they feel able to submit their applications as soon as possible.”

Applications can be completed online at: https://www.oldham.gov.uk/info/201167/apply_for_a_primary_school_place

If people are struggling to get online, computers and support are available at Oldham Link Centre and Oldham Libraries.

Or if help or advice is needed parents and carers can contact the School Admissions Team at: ecs.pupils@oldham.gov.uk or on 0161 770 4213.
