Police investigation after Oldham Council leader’s car 'deliberately' set alight

Police have launched a search for an arsonist after a car belonging to Oldham Council leader Cllr Arooj Shah was set alight.

The car, parked on the street in the Glodwick area, was discovered on fire in the early hours of this morning.

The fire was extinguished by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, but the vehicle was left extensively damaged.

The flames also caused slight damage to a neighbouring property.

Police say the vehicle was deliberately ignited.

No-one was injured in the incident, and officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Oldham Council declined to comment on what they described as an "ongoing police enquiry", whilst Cllr Shah was unavailable for comment.

Inquiries are ongoing.
