Hollinwood church hoping to make even more of an Impact in the community

Date published: 30 July 2021

Churchgoers at the Impact Church in Hollinwood have launched an appeal in a bid to finally raise enough money to buy a van which will allow them to continue their work with the homeless and most impoverished in the local community.

Pastor and Project Leader Lee Marsland said: "Everyone at the Impact Community Church, and through our outreach arm of the church (Encounter Ministries), works with homeless charities and people who are really struggling.

"We collect and and deliver food parcels, clothing, and household goods / furniture; and at Christmas we have been doing a 'Big Give' for a number of years now to enable people who are struggling to even buy food.

"We supply not only food hampers, but also gifts, along with delivering three-course Christmas dinners across Oldham's food shelters.

"We are finding in the current climate that more people are coming to us for help and unfortunately all the years of loading my car up as a van are taking its toll, so we need to get a van now to continue what we do.

"We are not just a church, we are a hub in the community and trying to spread our reach.

"We also have a new plant in the old Nazarene building on Bloom Street in Oldham and are soon to be starting a community hub where the homeless community can drop in to be fed.

"We don't want to be just another soup kitchen, but we will be engaging through our partners at Sanctuary Trust UK and will be making referrals for people to return the following day to access the support they need to get them off the streets.

"Through the church donations we are then able to help furnish the flats that we manage to get people into."
