Crowds took advantage of the sunshine and flocked to celebrate the return of Chadderton Day at Foxdenton Park.

Organised by the Chadderton Together Group, a feature of the event and focal point was the refurbishment and opening of Lydia’s Tearoom, named in honour of Lydia Becker, a suffragist who lived at Foxdenton Hall.

As well as the attraction of the café and a DJ, there were stalls run by charities, small local businesses and activities for children.

Oldham’s Mayor, Cll Jenny Harrison, who attended the event, said: “There was a great atmosphere and it was a pleasure to support it.

“Thanks are due to members of Chadderton Together for the huge effort that's gone into the completion of the café refurbishment and the organisation of Chadderton Day.

"They've now set their sights on obtaining funding to refurbish and reopen Foxdenton Hall."

The tea room was a former dilapidated bowling pavilion and has been transformed into a modern, attractive café run by Pure Innovations, who already run cafés in Dunwood Park and Alexandra Park and support people with additional needs into employment and a fuller life.
