Mammoth efforts by a delighted team of volunteers raised £10,000 for charities and good causes at the highly-successful Saddleworth Show.

And hundreds of fun loving families who turned out in bright sunshine to attend the legendary event voted it a resounding success.

Staged at Wel-li-hole farm in Greenfield, a raft of local dignitaries attended the afternoon showpiece.

They included Oldham’s Mayor, Cllr Jennifer Harrison, her consort Cllr Shaid Mushtaq, Council leader Arooj Shah,  Debbie Abrahams MP, Youth Mayor Tia Henderson,  cllr Barbara Beeley, chair of Saddleworth parish council and fellow councillor, Kathryn Philips.

GMP were represented by Superintendent Collette Rose and local sergeant Paul Heap.

Said the Mayor: “Saddleworth Show really came back with a bang. There was a great celebratory atmosphere with mainly warm, fine weather.

“After many months of covid restrictions and cancellations, all thanks and credit are due to Oldham Metro and Saddleworth Rotary Club who've worked extremely hard to put on this impressive event. It was greatly enjoyed.

“I visited as many stalls and tents as possible and was really impressed by the range and variety of charities and organisations represented as well as fun activities and entertainment for families and children.

“ Not least of these were the very popular annual duck race and dog show. I had the pleasure of drawing the tickets for the Saddleworth Mountain Rescue Team raffle too.

“It was a thoroughly enjoyable event with something for everyone,” she  added.

Rotary club organisers Frank Bolger and Tony Burke said around  3,000 people attended, enjoying the whole host of attractions, food outlets, local artisans, crafters and creators.

“Everyone went away happy and smiling and looking forward to next year's events.

“We give our thanks to all the volunteers, who worked their socks off, and  the sponsors and partners who give their support so generously.”

The statement added: “Following on from our fantastic Wellifest event we hope to have raised around £10,000.

“The result is the Rotary Clubs of Oldham Metro and Saddleworth will be able to continue their support of local good causes and Charities for another year helping thousands of vulnerable families, young people and other organisations.”
