'Unacceptable' - drink driver four times over the limit is charged
Date published: 27 September 2021

The driver refused to provide a sample of breath at road side and was subsequently arrested
A driver has been charged after being stopped in Ashton and subsequently found to be four times over the drink-drive limit.
A post on the GMP Tameside North and East Facebook page read: "On Sunday 26th September 2021 at 17:00 hours PC 16704 El-Hage and PS 15566 Marsden stopped a vehicle on Alt Hill Road where the driver was suspected of being intoxicated.
"The driver refused to provide a sample of breath at road side and was subsequently arrested.
"Whilst in Ashton-under-Lyne custody, the driver provided an evidential reading of 149 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, which is more than four time the legal limit.
"This is unacceptable and could have ended with a member of the public or the driver being seriously or fatally hurt."
