You can help shape Oldham's future
A brand-new website showcasing the ambitious plans for Oldham's new town centre has been launched.
It's the first time all future plans for Oldham can be seen in one place.
They include plans for a new 5.7-acre town centre park, a new theatre and the redevelopment of Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre - including a new Tommyfield Market, new events space, new entrepreneur workspace, an arts and heritage archive centre and improved shopping.
You can read about all the projects, share your views and ideas, and take part in the 'Big Oldham Conversation' at www.oldham.gov.uk/towncentre
Cllr Arooj Shah, Oldham Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic and Social Reform, said: "The Big Oldham Conversation is my personal commitment to ensuring we are truly listening to our communities. We want to hear what matters most to you - so that we can work better than ever for you.
"The regeneration of Oldham is especially important – and we want you to be better informed. This accessible website will help you to see how Oldham town centre could look in the future.
"There’s some exciting opportunities ahead – but we want our residents, businesses and workers to be at the heart of everything we are doing. So please have your say and share this opportunity with others."
The online consultation will remain open throughout Autumn/Winter in order to gather as many views as possible.
Feedback on the Spindles projects will also help shape the initial planning application to redevelop the centre, which will be submitted towards the end of this year.
And as part of the Big Oldham Conversation, council staff will be out and about across the town centre, sharing the regeneration plans in person, answering questions, and listening to your views.
Events will take place regularly in the run up to Christmas with the first one happening in Spindles on Saturday 23 October.
Staff will be outside the former Debenhams Unit on the lower mall between 10am-2pm.
