A Lib Dem campaigner says it's time for temporary traffic lights to become a permanent fixture at Well-i-Hole Bridge in Greenfield.
Jeff Garner says temporary traffic lights have worked well to calm traffic and make the road safer for pedestrians and cars.
A car struck the bridge in November, causing damage to the parapet and one of the wingwalls.
Whilst the bridge is repaired, temporary traffic lights have been introduced by the council. But now Mr Garner says residents support a more permanent fixture.
"We fully support the residents’ move and are asking the council to consider introducing traffic lights as soon as possible. The hump-backed bridge has a record of serious accidents. It is a blind spot on a long straight road, and the lights would reduce speeding and hopefully prevent further accidents.
"The bridge closure has caused a lot of inconvenience for residents throughout Saddleworth. This is a perfect opportunity to upgrade the safety measures at this dangerous bridge,
The bridge is currently closed while structural repairs are being carried out and is not due to reopen until the end of the month. Oldham Council say they aim to fully reopen the road "as soon as possible."
