Lily was hit by a car at the weekend
Residents across Oldham are being invited to an outdoor candlelit vigil this evening for Lily Rose Morris who was tragically killed at the weekend in Sholver.
The vigil has been organised by Rachel Harper who runs the Moorside and Sholver Watch Group on Facebook.
Rachel told the Chronicle that it has affected everyone in the community: "Lily's mum, Mel is in my group, and when I heard about the tragedy, I was completely heartbroken.
"We are a very tight-knit community in Sholver and everyone looks out for each other. The community is in total shock and we are all devastated with the loss of Lily Rose.
"I think its important the community comes together to show our support to Mel and the family."
The Head of Hodge Clough Primary School, which Lily attended, is expected to say a few words, as well as a representative from Greater Manchester Police, who are heading the investigation into the 10-year-old's death.
A book of condolance will be available to sign at the event, which will be gifted to Lily's family. Attendees are asked to bring their own pen due to Covid safety measures.
The vigil will be held outside the Northgate pub on Sholver Green at 6pm this evening.
If you're attending the vigil, you're asked to bring your own candle, though Rachel says she has a small supply available.
Candles will be lit during the event, and a 2 minutes silence will be observed.
Everybody will have the chance to speak at the vigil if they wish.
