New look for Failsworth Sports Centre revealed

Date published: 10 January 2022

A refurbished gym and new indoor cycling studio have been unveiled as part of a refurbishment of Failsworth Sports Centre which took place over Christmas.

Oldham Community Leisure (OCL), which runs the centre, have completed a refurbishment of the gym, including the installation of modern fitness equipment, and the creation of a bespoke indoor cycling studio.

The works took a month to complete and were carried out over the Christmas period to reduce customer disruption.

The new equipment includes a high-tech cardio zone with upgraded Matrix cardiovascular equipment, as well as a comprehensive resistance area, which includes a top-of-the-range Technogym ‘Kinesis’ cable zone, a functional training zone with a large multi-use rig, and a large free weights area. The wide range of equipment will cater for people looking for strength, conditioning, toning, power and speed training.

Simon Blair, Head of Business Development at OCL, said: "Failsworth Sports Centre was the most dated in our portfolio of leisure centres, but this fantastic refurbishment brings it in line with our other gyms. The strength and resistance equipment is the best in the business and provides several streams for training with strength, functional, HIIT, fixed resistance, a Kinesis zone and traditional free weight and plate loaded stations. There really is something for everyone, whatever your ability or goal."

The refurbishment also includes a brand-new designated indoor cycling studio that houses 25 bikes. Additionally, the entire space, including all the corridors, have been redecorated, a new floor has been installed and the gym lockers upgraded.

Mr Blair says the cycling studio was particularly in demand:  "We are thrilled with the much-needed designated indoor cycling studio, as we know how popular it remains, and this studio is a fantastic asset that our customers will love. We created the new studio by dividing a large underused space into two sections; the other half is a fitness space for the school."

"We are confident our members and customers will really enjoy and make the most of Failsworth’s transformation. It’s is a hidden gem, and now with its large gym, group classes, separate indoor cycling studio, a four-lane swimming pool and sports hall provision, it really does offer a full fit-for-purpose health and fitness package for our community."
