Engineers working to fix power in Uppermill within hours

Date published: 17 February 2022

Engineers from Electricity North West are working on a power cut affecting properties in Uppermill following damage from Storm Dudley.

High winds topping 50mph and dangerous conditions hit parts of Oldham yesterday afternoon causing properties in Uppermill to lose power.

Across the North West, power cuts have affected over 10,000 properties with engineers restoring power to 94% within six hours.

Electricity North West say they expect to have restored power to the properties in Uppermill at around 3pm today.  However, with high voltage power cuts, engineers are often able to get power back on before the estimated restoration time.

Stephanie Trubshaw, Electricity North West’s customer director, said: “It has been a busy period after Storm Dudley brought high winds for a sustained period of time.

“The majority of power cuts have been caused by trees falling on overhead power lines but despite these issues, we responded quickly and restored power to the bulk of those affected within six hours.

“Our engineers are continuing to work throughout the day and aim to restore power to the last remaining few affected as quickly as possible.”

Conditions from Storm Dudley are expected to ease throughout the day, however, the Met Office is warning of more bad weather as Storm Eunice looks set to hit the region tomorrow.

Jon Baylis, the Chronicle weather expert says Oldham will be hit by high winds on Friday.  "The strongest gusts saved for the afternoon, with 70mph possible quite widely"

"Another shift in its track is possible. An very unsettled day for us, which looks to start not too windy. Heavy rain followed by wintry showers and some more prolonged rain, sleet and snow later as winds veer north-westerly. Winds look to be at their strongest mid-afternoon."

If you experience a power cut during the storms, you can dial 105 to report the failure.  In addition, Electricy North West has a Priority Services Register for more vulnerable customers.  The company will provide extra help during a power cut.  You can register here for yourself or a relative.
