Commuters are asked to think carefully about travel tomorrow
Commuters across Greater Manchester are being urged to think carefully before they travel – and travel only if necessary – as as Storm Eunice is set to hit Oldham and beyond tomorrow.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning ahead of the storm’s arrival between 3am and 9pm tomorrow, with winds up to 70mph in Oldham as well as some snow on higher ground.
There is a good chance that flying debris could result in a danger to life. Falling branches and uprooted trees may block Metrolink and rail lines and could also damage power lines, equipment and buildings.
With the storm likely to cause significant disruption to public transport networks through delayed or cancelled services, commuters are being asked to consider whether their journey is necessary.
If you need to travel, you're advised to check close to the time of your departure and plan ahead to take into account potential disruptions and reduced timetables.
Alex Cropper, Interim Head of Operations at TfGM, said: “Storm Eunice is expected to bring heavy winds which could severely affect public transport across Greater Manchester.
“There is a risk that debris such as trees or branches could be blown onto tracks, disrupting services and damaging equipment.
“With the Met Office warning that the weather could result in a danger to life, I’d strongly urge people to stay safe and think carefully before travelling and travel only if absolutely necessary.”
