Safety improvements underway on accident prone Failsworth Road.

Long awaited investment into safety improvements on an accident-prone Failsworth road is now taking place, with workmen having started on site.
Propps Hall Drive in Failsworth has been the site of multiple accidents in recent years, with the most recent leaving a 16 year old boy seriously injured after being knocked off a moped last summer.
A previous horror crash in January 2021 caused two teenage girls to be hospitalised.
The safety improvements come after local Labour Councillors were able to secure funding and design a scheme that was acceptable to residents of the road.
In total more than £50,000 will be spent installing islands along the middle of the road and providing a crossing near to a busy shopping parade opposite Propps Hall Primary School.
Placing more physical features in the road should make drivers more cautious and prevent them from crossing over to the wrong side to speed up around the bends in the road.
Failsworth West Councillor Pete Davis said, “I am glad that work is finally starting on improving the safety of Propps Hall Drive. Councillors past and present worked hard to get the money together for these measures.
"I hope that we will see fewer accidents on this road when the investment is complete.”
His colleague Councillor Elaine Garry said, “Getting enough money for a pedestrian crossing too makes me particularly proud.
"There are two primary schools and a children’s centre nearby and if we want to encourage more parents to walk their children to school then we need safe walking routes.
"The crossing will help provide this.”
