Driver rescued from car after serious collision in Oldham

The fire service and paramedics are attending after a serious collision in Oldham town centre.

Firefighters have been using specialised equipment to release the driver of the red Peugeot 108 at the junction of Rochdale Road and New Radcliffe Street outside Oldham College.

A black Audi has also been involved in the incident.

Pictures show nine firefighters and two appliances attending the scene which has closed Rochdale Road in both directions.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 10:30am this morning (Friday 18 March), two fire engines from Hollins and Chadderton fire stations and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne were called to reports of a road traffic collision on New Radcliffe Street, Oldham.

“The incident involved two vehicles. Crews arrived quickly and firefighters worked alongside colleagues from North West Ambulance Service to rescue one person from a vehicle, who was then transferred to hospital by NWAS.

“Firefighters made the scene safe before departing after around one hour.”
