Mystery of 'Valerie' who loved The White House pub

Date published: 17 April 2022

A floral tribute has been left on the steps of the White House pub on Oldham Edge for a former patron who loved the hostelry.

The White House pub on Henshaw Street had been closed for almost two years when it was re-opened by Craig and Angela Horrocks in October of 2019.

However, the establishment closed its doors again within six months, and has been empty since.

The note on the flowers

The flowers were left on the doorstep of the pub by a friend of Valerie - who said she had personally requested that the flowers be left at 'the pub she loved'.

The note with the tribute says: "If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever, Valerie. Sleep peacefully.  For the Lord has called you to his side to walk with the angels.  Love Duncan."

Neighbours on Henshaw Street say they are intrigued by the mystery, and are unable to identify Valerie, or Duncan.

If you know Valerie and her connection with the pub, we'd love to hear from you.  Email news@oldham-chronicle.co.uk or call us on 0161 633 2121.

Samuel Smith Brewery, based in Tadcaster say they are committed to the future of the pub, and will re-open the establishment once they have found a 'suitable couple' to manage the hostelry.

The brewery offer full training, and prefer couples who have not run a pub before. If you are interested in managing the White House pub, call 07771 555354.
