Oldham set to benefit from ultrafast broadband boost

Date published: 08 June 2022

Netomnia, the UK’s fastest-growing wholesale fibre broadband operator, has announced that its full fibre multi-gigabit network is being rolled out in Oldham as part of its continued expansion across the UK.

Netomnia aim to provide Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband infrastructure to around 71,000 premises in Oldham as part of an investment of up to £21 million in the area, delivering access to its robust and reliable broadband network, helping to future-proof and diversify the local economy.

The company is partnering with O’Connor Utilities to roll out its broadband infrastructure in Oldham, enabling speedy deployment using cutting edge optical solutions.

Oldham’s town centre is set to undergo a major transformation, strengthening the community, enhancing the environment and shaping it for future generations.

Access to a robust and reliable, ultrafast network will hopefully align with this positive change as part of Oldham’s ambition to become a thriving hub for business, entrepreneurs, arts and community groups.

Jeremy Chelot, Chief Executive Officer at Netomnia, said: “Our latest investment in Oldham will ensure around 71,000 premises have access to a reliable and ultrafast network.

"Our introduction to the town aligns greatly with its wider project in the town centre to strengthen its community and we are proud to be playing our part in shaping the future of Oldham.”

Along with its sister company YouFibre, an internet service provider, Netomnia has secured £418 million in funding since 2020 to support its rollout strategy and aims to reach one million premises in 2023.

Netomnia makes wholesale connectivity available to Internet Service Providers (ISPs), building the infrastructure for their broadband services.

Its network supports symmetrical (equal upload and download speeds) multi-gigabit services up to 10 Gbps (10,000 Mbps) using XGS-PON technology; this means ISPs using Netomnia’s network will be able to offer their customers reliable ultrafast speeds for decades to come.
