Cllr Pam Byrne collects her cheque
Bookworm customers at Tesco in Greenfield have raised more much-needed funds for valued local causes.
Cllr Pam Byrne, chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council, collected a cheque for £100 of book shelf money to help with the Chairmans Charity Trust.
She was presented with the cheque by Sarah Hindle, Shift Leader.
And Sam Berry collected a cheque for £100 towards St Mary's school family festival.
“These very worthwhile causes are supported by our very generous Tesco Greenfield customers,” said Greg Barratt, Tesco community champion.
The book shelf is run by customers who bring books to the customer service desk and then the books are placed on special shelf.
Former store worker Marie Toora came up with the idea and funds raised enables Tesco customers to donate to groups locally.
Said Greg: "We have customers that come in store, donate £5 for a book, take it home, read and then return the book with some of their own books as well.
“It's really successful and because now, as restrictions are lifting, customers are so glad its back.”
