Police appeal follows 'cowardly burglary'

Date published: 14 July 2022

Police have urged the public to be aware of a man purporting to be a plumber after a man in his 70s was targeted and a stash of jewellery and watches worth hundreds of pounds was taken in Chadderton on Tuesday.

Investigators believe the incident may be linked to some other recent reports made in the town and potentially in north Manchester, and are appealing anyone with information to get in touch.

Following initial enquiries, officers have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to about the incident as they believe he may hold significant information.

DS Matthew Adshead, of GMP’s Oldham district, said: “What’s happened to this elderly gentleman here is appalling and he is understandably shaken after what was a deliberate and cowardly burglary.

“The victim has lost some significant items of sentimental value and we are not only determined to reunite him with these items, but to also catch the man responsible.

“Anyone who recognises the image of the man we have released in connection to this incident, should let us know as soon as possible.

“We’re also asking the public to be mindful of individuals that are gaining access to their properties without correct identification with the intent to steal belongings – if you are ever unsure call the police on 999 in an emergency.”

Anyone with information about the man pictured should contact us on 0161 856 4521 quoting incident 2184 of 12/07/2022.

Details can be alternatively passed to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
