Your FREE August printed edition of your Oldham Evening Chronicle is available now

Date published: 22 August 2022

The August edition of your local newspaper is out now.

You can find the free edition at even more sites across the town, and there is a full list below.

This month, a new era begins at Oldham Athletic, as the Rothwell family take control.  We've an interview with Chairman, Frank Rothwell, and take a look at his colourful background.  There's renewed vigour at Boundary Park as Latics begin the tough campaign to return to the EFL.

See some of the pictures from the spectacular new Hindu temple in Oldham, which was self-funded at a cost of £7m. The local community donated funds, skills, and time to build the temple, which will be used for many community events, as well as for worship.

A year after the launch, we look at the progress of the 'Don't Trash Oldham' campaign - an initiative to clear streets of dumped rubbish, and to change attitudes to getting rid of our waste.  We look at the latest developments and plans for the continuing campaign.

Elsewhere, we pay tribute to Oldham's Bernard Cribbins who died earlier this month at the age of 93.  An astonishing and varied career which began here in Oldham at the Coliseum.

We think you'll love our look back at football in Oldham in our 'From The Archive' pages, including historical photographs of Oldham Athletic in the early 1900s, local team 'Fern Villa', and the impressive team coach from 1973.

Plus, our regular features on food, wine, books, and cycling, and your regular Pit Your Wits Chronicle quiz.
