Date published: 22 August 2022

The debut novella by Tim Jeffreys, a British horror writer who grew up in Oldham, has just been released by American publisher Manta Press.

Tim lived in Limeside and studied art at Oldham College until leaving for University in Leeds in 1997.

It was at University that he was encouraged to pursue his fiction writing.

He now lives in Bristol.

He built his name writing short fiction, which was published in acclaimed anthologies and magazines such as Supernatural Tales, Nightscript, and The Alchemy Press Book of Horrors.

Holburn, which was published on August 9, tells the story of rock guitarist Gael Drake who learns his younger sister, Ava, has gone missing from the boarding school he placed her in to keep her out of the clutches of their older brother, a famous medium calling himself The Spirit Whisperer, who wants to use Ava in his stage-shows.

Avahas the ability to raise spirits and communicate with ghosts.

Given the news that one of the school teachers has died mysteriously and Ava has gone missing, Gael returns to Holburn to try and find his sister.

But doing so means he must face the spooks that Ava raised during her time at the school.

Fellow horror writer Matthew G Rees said: “Readers who like their writing pacy with shocks and splashes of humour may well rate this as a rattling good read.

"A lively blend of mystery, thriller and chiller from an author well-tuned to the weird.”
