Inspirational Kevin helps raise almost £5k for Mahdlo

Date published: 12 October 2022

Kevin Sinfield OBE shared his inspirational story at an evening event that raised £4,700 for Mahdlo Youth Zone.

Interviewed by BBC reporter Kevin Fitzpatrick, Kevin spoke passionately about his career in rugby league, teamwork, his longstanding friendships and his incredible fundraising challenges to raise awareness and funds for MND charities.

Speaking about his career, he said: "The individual awards are for my mum and dad, but the team awards are the ones that are special me.

"I wish I’d have celebrated the wins more, though, and the good things that happened when they happened.”

His next challenge will see him take on seven ultra-marathons in seven days, where he will run around 65km a day.

Starting on November 13 in Edinburgh, Kevin will stop at iconic locations close to his heart and he expects to finish during half time at the Rugby League World Cup at Old Trafford a week later.

Speaking about his fundraising and his motivations, Kevin added: "There’s no greater gift than to provide hope.”

Claire Crossfield, fundraising manager at Mahdlo, said: "Huge thanks to Kevin for giving his time to support Mahdlo and share his story.

"Everyone that attended was captivated by Kevin and you could’ve heard a pin drop.

"Motivating, inspiring, humbling, the list could go on.”

Part of the fundraising on the night also saw the auction of a signed painting of Kevin and his team mate Rob Burrow, with the proceeds of the auction being split between Mahdlo and MND Charities.

The event is the second in Mahdlo’s series of ‘An evening with….’, with the next event scheduled for early 2023 with speaker Frank Rothwell.
