Witness appeal issued after teenage car passenger dies following collision with lamp post

Date published: 17 October 2022

Officers are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a 16-year-old male lost his life after a car he was a passenger in collided with a lamp post.

Two others suffered minor and serious injuries, whilst the 18-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and remains in custody for questioning after treatment to his injuries.

Greater Manchester Police were called at around 8pm on Saturday evening (October 15) to a serious collision on Droylsden Road in Tameside, as it approached North Road.

Emergency services attended the scene and despite the best attempts of officers and paramedics a passenger of the vehicle that collided with a lamp post was pronounced dead a short time later after suffering fatal injuries.

Specialist officers have been deployed to support his family at this devastating time.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the car, described as a white Vauxhall Corsa, and the collision in a busy area of Audenshaw during the evening to get in touch to help their investigation.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV/doorbell footage from the area in the moments before the collision took place.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident 3004 of 15/10/22.

Alternatively, details can be passed via GMP's LiveChat function at: www.gmp.police.uk or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
