Charity football match kicks off Christmas fundraising efforts for Failsworth school’s Community Fridge

With a 2-2 draw, everyone had a great time and raised over £150 towards the Community Fridge
Co-op Academy Failsworth hosted a charity football match to raise money for their Community Fridge.
The Community Fridge, based at Failsworth Sports Campus on Brierley Avenue, has been feeding over 20 families a week since it opened in 2021.
The Community Fridge at Failsworth offers long-life food, hygiene and sanitary products for free to those who are in need.
In the run-up to Christmas, Co-op Academy Failsworth are increasing their fundraising efforts to make sure those in the local community get the support they need over the festive season.
Over 100 students and staff turned up to watch and support the players.
With a 2-2 draw, everyone had a great time and raised over £150 towards the Community Fridge, helping it keeped stocked in the run-up to Christmas.
Headteacher Phill Quirk said: “The football match was amazing: such a great atmosphere and for a good cause.
“The Community Fridge has been a key focus of the Academy since it opened last year.
"Over 200 families have accessed the fridge this term alone.
"It has become an important pillar in the community and we will continue to help our community in Failsworth as much as we can.”
Co-op Academy Failsworth’s Community Fridge is open Monday-Friday, 2pm-5pm and offers no questions asked support.
