Officers from Oldham’s Challenger team raided a house in the area at 6am on Wednesday (December 7), and located a black handgun in the loft.
A 26-year-old woman, a 14-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man were arrested at the address on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody for questioning.
They have since been released under investigation.
Detective Inspector Nick Helme, of Oldham’s Challenger team at GMP, said: “The intelligence leading officers to the execution of the warrant has resulted in the discovery of a dangerous viable handgun.
“It has now been taken out of circulation, preventing it from potentially being used by individuals involved in serious and organised crime.
“We’re constantly acting on information that is provided to us so that we are one step ahead of organised crime and relentless in our pursuit of people we suspect of being involved in it.
“I am therefore encouraging people in the community to be our eyes and our ears and ask that you please get in touch if you believe it could be taking place in your area.”
If you have information, please call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or contact GMP via 101.
