Damieon gears up for his latest marathon challenge for Mahdlo

Date published: 02 March 2023

Greater Manchester Police Sergeant Damieon Hartley-Pickles will run 26 one-mile laps around Oldham on Saturday week (March 11), with all sponsorship money raised going to Mahdlo Youth Zone.

Not for the first time, Damieon will put his fitness to the test for Mahdlo by taking part in a marathon challenge.

Over the past 15 years Damieon has raised over £50,000 for charities by running marathons, playing in 24-hour football games and 13-hour touch-rugby matches, and having his legs shaved.

Next week, Damieon will take on 26 miles of rolling terrain through Oldham town centre while carrying his trusty wheelbarrow as a collection tin.

To support him in this endeavour, Mahdlo members will run a mile with Damieon, proudly representing and supporting Mahdlo Youth Zone in the build-up to the centre’s 11th birthday on Friday, March 17.

Amos Brooks, Corporate and Community Fundraiser at Mahdlo, described Damieon’s challenge as “a fantastic and challenging way to support Mahdlo, that will engage our young people”.

Taking place a week before Mahdlo’s birthday, Damieon’s run will be part of a wider celebration of all that Mahdlo has contributed to Oldham’s young people in the past 11 years.

This includes parties for Mahdlo members and a much-anticipated yellow and grey day, an epic fundraising competition which aims to fill Oldham with the colours of Mahdlo.

At the same time, all donations made to Mahdlo from now to March 31 will be matched by their new Platinum Patron Rowan Ashworth, a contribution described by Amos Brooks as “an astounding offer to the centre which will inspire the already generous populace of Oldham”.
